Course Description: 45 Hours

Purpose: To enable learners attain skills necessary for research in a public health discipline

Expected Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

1.        Demonstrate an understanding of what public health research is and its contribution towards solving priority problems in public health within the local context;

2.        Apply the concepts of public health in their practice;

3.        Apply diverse qualitative research methods and approaches in data collection;

4.        Integrate the philosophy of public health in their practice;

5.        Develop core competencies that are critical for public health practice including multidisciplinary approaches;

6.        Prepare a final report of the research findings, including recommendations for solving the problem and a plan of action for their implementation;

7.        Disseminate the research findings through appropriate avenues such as stakeholder workshops, seminars and manuscript publications.

8.        Integrate evidence-based approaches in their public health work/disciplines.
