1. Purpose of the Course
The course aims at imparting in-depth conceptual and practical understanding of the meanings of governance and development, the main concepts, theories, and debates in the field of development studies in historical and contemporary contexts. It equips the students with the requisite knowledge necessary for critical engagement in development debates and analyses of development issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.
2. Expected Learning Outcomes
By end of the course, the
students will be able to:
i. Explain the concepts and meaning of governance and development;
ii. Interrogate the main theories of governance and development;
iii. Identify and explain the inter-linkages between various forms of governance and levels of development; and
iv. Assess the types of development taking place in different parts of Africa.
3. Mode of Delivery
The delivery methodology will mainly be interactive, mixing class lectures, seminars, individual and group presentations and intensive and extensive reading. Guest Lecturers may be invited to give lectures on specialized topics. The classes will be online.
